Black History Month: Kirk Franklin

Revolution https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jr41skFqzb8

The musicality invigorates your entire brain--beat, rhythm, harmony, lyrics (sometimes Gospel, sometime hip-hop.) The musicianship- a variety of instruments reminiscent of Quincy Jones with Michael Jackson-is superior. But somehow Kirk Franklin's music is also spiritual, like the Ave Maria or Mahalia Jackson. That's his goal.

Kirk Franklin has shared his story of humble beginnings in Fort Worth, his missteps, his victories. All the time never deviating from his faith in Jesus. He will upset more traditional Christians be associating with musicians that are considered way too wicked--but I hear Jesus did that, too.

Here are some of my favorites--having a tough time? need encouragement? feel like worshiping? feel like stomping? Here you go.
Like the lyrics in Brighter Day-

I never knew I could be so happy
And I never knew I'd be so secure because of your love
Life has brand new meaning
It's gonna be a brighter day, brighter day

The Storm is Over Now

My Heart Be Made Anew

Kirk Franklin - The Night That Christ Was Born

Listen to the angels
Rejoicing e'er so sweetly
Receiving heaven's glory
The night that Christ was born
[repeat]

[Chorus II]
Can't you see the people
Coming from every nation
Pleading for salvation
The night that Christ was born

[Repeat Chorus I & II]

[Chorus III]
Oh such a wonderful savior
To be born in a manger
So that I can share His favor
And my heart be made anew

[Chorus IV]
Listen to the trumpets
Shouting through the darkness
Crying 'holy, holy'
The night that Christ was born

[Repeat Chorus III and IV]

[Repeat Chorus III]

Listen to the trumpets
Shouting through the darkness
Crying 'holy, holy' (Now Behold the Savior)
The night that Christ was born
[repeat Chorus]

Jesus Is The Reason For The Season
Kirk Franklin
Angels we have heard on High!!!
Jesus is the reason (ladies)
For the season (ladies)
Yes oh yes he is. (ladies)
Oh yes he is yeah (tenors)
I don't need
Material things
All I need
Is the love you give
This holiday
I came to say
That Jesus Is
The Only Way
Jesus is the reason
For the season
Yes oh yes he is. (ladies)
Oh yes he is yeah (tenors)
I don't need
Material things
All I need
Is the love you give
This holiday
I came to say
That Jesus Is
The Only Way
Jesus is the reason
For the season
Yes oh yes he is. (ladies)
Oh yes he is yeah (tenors)
Gloria! Glo-are-ia
Vamp-
He is
He's the reason
One thing you should know
Where ever you go
He is
He's the reason
One thing I can say
On this special day
I don't need
Material things
All I need
Is the love you give
This holiday
I came to say
That Jesus Is
The Only Way
Who go the praise?
We got the praise
And who we give the praise to?
Jesus!
Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah
I love it when you call him your savior
I don't need
Material things
All I need
Is the love you give
This holiday
I came to say
That Jesus Is
The Only Way

MzTeachuh's Meditations: Living Water

John 4 New International Version (NIV)

Now he had to go through Samaria. So he came to a town in Samaria called Sychar, near the plot of ground Jacob had given to his son Joseph. Jacob’s well was there, and Jesus, tired as he was from the journey, sat down by the well. It was about noon.

When a Samaritan woman came to draw water, Jesus said to her, “Will you give me a drink?” (His disciples had gone into the town to buy food.) The Samaritan woman said to him, “You are a Jew and I am a Samaritan woman. How can you ask me for a drink?” (For Jews do not associate with Samaritans.[a])
10 Jesus answered her, “If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water.”
11 “Sir,” the woman said, “you have nothing to draw with and the well is deep. Where can you get this living water? 12 Are you greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well and drank from it himself, as did also his sons and his livestock?”
13 Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, 14 but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”
15 The woman said to him, “Sir, give me this water so that I won’t get thirsty and have to keep coming here to draw water.”
16 He told her, “Go, call your husband and come back.”
17 “I have no husband,” she replied.
Jesus said to her, “You are right when you say you have no husband. 18 The fact is, you have had five husbands, and the man you now have is not your husband. What you have just said is quite true.”
19 “Sir,” the woman said, “I can see that you are a prophet. 20 Our ancestors worshiped on this mountain, but you Jews claim that the place where we must worship is in Jerusalem.”
21 “Woman,” Jesus replied, “believe me, a time is coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem. 22 You Samaritans worship what you do not know; we worship what we do know, for salvation is from the Jews. 23 Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. 24 God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.”
25 The woman said, “I know that Messiah” (called Christ) “is coming. When he comes, he will explain everything to us.”
26 Then Jesus declared, “I, the one speaking to you—I am he.”

In the Garden, Time Well Spent

The Garden in Pontoise , Camille Pissaro
Even if it's a tiny garden in containers on your balcony or patio.

And here's a sweet Gospel song about spending time in the garden in prayer sung by someone who really means it.

Precious Lord, Lead Me Home

Angels Comforting, J. K. Richards

Precious Lord, take my hand
Lead me on, let me stand
I'm tired, I'm weak, I'm lone
Through the storm, through the night
Lead me on to the light
Take my hand precious Lord, lead me home

When my way grows drear precious Lord linger near
When my light is almost gone
Hear my cry, hear my call
Hold my hand lest I fall
Take my hand precious Lord, lead me home

When the darkness appears and the night draws near
And the day is past and gone
At the river I stand
Guide my feet, hold my hand
Take my hand precious Lord, lead me home

Precious Lord, take my hand
Lead me on, let me stand
I'm tired, I'm weak, I'm lone
Through the storm, through the night
Lead me on to the light
Take my hand precious Lord, lead me home
