Opinion: Why Teachers Shouldn’t Write Curriculum

The word “curriculum,” as it pertains to education, can include everything from the materials used to teach our students to the planned learning experiences. If we think of the Common Core standards as the academic destination for our students (the “what” we want them to know and be able to do), our curriculum is the vehicle for getting them there. However, teachers are often asked to do too much when it comes to curriculum design and planning.

Merry Christmas from Mzteachuh!

During this break from teaching, be sure to sleep in heavenly peace, Teach. You have surely earned the respite, regeneration, and reflection. Renewal is a decision--now is the time.

Let the lesson plans go for awhile. Paperwork isn't invited to the party.

Go outside. Sure, you may have to bundle up (though this year you might have a picnic, the temps are warm.) Listen to nature, check out the trees, breathe fresh air. You need it.

Put things in God's hands. He'll give you the answers, the strength. the peace. Meditate. Quiet is powerful.

We are in this together-the excellent privilege of nurturing and challenging our kids.

With the increasingly negative educational environment, often our school communities become a world of closed doors meant only to be inclusive to those who are let in.

It's this environment that breeds the want for educators to seek outlets of connection through social media and conferences outside of their own learning communities to remain vital in the classroom.

St. Joseph: What A Man! Let Mum Rest Creche

Pope says the Christmas creche is a living Gospel, a domestic Gospel, that offers an invitation: Jesus, come in!

Pope Francis said that for his birthday on December 17, he was shown a unique Nativity scene, dubbed “Let Mum Rest.” In the depiction, which has been making the rounds this year on social media, Mary is sleeping and Joseph is holding a tired Baby with his arms outstretched in a typical newborn pose.
The pope said the image shows “the tenderness of a family, of a marriage.”
