Aww Garsh: Love Songs for Valentine's Day #6

Brian Wilson said he wanted to write a masterpiece--so he wrote this.

Epic success.

The Beach Boys - Good Vibrations (with lyrics on screen)

Good Vibrations

I-I love the colorful clothes she wears
And the way the sunlight plays upon her hair
I hear the sound of a gentle word
On the wind that lifts her perfume through the air

I'm pickin' up good vibrations
She's giving me excitations (Oom bop bop)
I'm pickin' up good vibrations (Good vibrations, oom bop bop)
She's giving me excitations (Excitations, oom bop bop)
Good, good, good, good vibrations (Oom bop bop)
She's giving me excitations (Excitations, oom bop bop)
Good, good, good, good vibrations (Oom bop bop)
She's giving me excitations (Excitations)

Close my eyes, she's somehow closer now
Softly smile, I know she must be kind
When I look in her eyes
She goes with me to a blossom world

I'm pickin' up good vibrations
She's giving me excitations (Oom bop bop)
I'm pickin' up good vibrations (Good vibrations, oom bop bop)
She's giving me excitations (Excitations, oom bop bop)
Good, good, good, good vibrations (Oom bop bop)
She's giving me excitations (Excitations, oom bop bop)
Good, good, good, good vibrations (Oom bop bop)
She's giving me excitations (Excitations)

(Ahh)
(Ah, my my, what elation)
I don't know where but she sends me there
(Oh, my my, what a sensation)
(Oh, my my, what elation)
(Oh, my my, what)

Gotta keep those lovin' good vibrations a-happenin' with her
Gotta keep those lovin' good vibrations a-happenin' with her
Gotta keep those lovin' good vibrations a-happenin'

(Ahh)

Good, good, good, good vibrations (Oom bop bop)
(I'm pickin' up good vibrations) (Oom bop bop)
She's giving me excitations (Excitations, oom bop bop)
Good, good, good, good vibrations

Na na na na na, na na na
Na na na na na, na na na (Bop bop-bop-bop-bop, bop)
Do do do do do, do do do (Bop bop-bop-bop-bop, bop)
Do do do do do, do do do (Bop bop-bop-bop-bop, bop)

ADHD Is Biological

Attention deficit disorder (ADD ADHD) is one of the most researched areas in child and adolescent mental health. However, much about ADHD -- including the precise cause of the disorder -- is still unknown.
We do know that ADHD is a brain-based biological disorder. Brain imaging studies using PET scanners show that brain metabolism in children with ADHD is lower in the areas of the brain that control attention, social judgment, and movement.

Nature, My Garden, and Me: Plant 'Rescue'--Buying A Christmas Tree Eleven Months Early

Meet Gael of the Whimsical Wind

Christmas Tree 2017! I 'rescue' trees and plants--this one was 50% off this week. I will baby it all year long and around Thanksgiving put it in a jolly planter, take it with me to Las Vegas to celebrate the holidays with my grown kids--then, one year from now--Jan. 2018--will plant it in my yard to stretch and grow. Christmas Tree 2009 is now about 25 ft tall in the backyard! My friend suggested I name this one--so it is Gael of the Whimsical Wind. (can you tell I'm a teacher and a writer?)

Stevie Wonder - My Cherie Amour

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1OlG2ek-wzs

La la la la la la, La la la la la la
My cherie amour, lovely as a summer day
My cherie amour, distant as the milky way
My cherie amour, pretty little one that I adore
You're the only girl my heart beats for
How I wish that you were mine

In a cafe or sometimes on a crowded street
I've been near you, but you never noticed me
My cherie amour, won't you tell me how could you ignore
That behind that little smile I wore
How I wish that you were mine
La la la la la la, La la la la la la
La la la la la la, La la la la la la
Maybe someday, you'll see my face among the crowd
Maybe someday, I'll share your little distant cloud
Oh, cherie amour, pretty little one that I adore
You're the only girl my heart beats for
How I wish that you were mine
La la la la la la, La la la la la la
La la la la la la, La la la la la la

Think about a time when you’ve were a part of a team that struggled. Teachers with diverse styles and needs just couldn’t see eye to eye. The one year seemed to last three.... Now think of a time when you’ve been a part of a fluid team that realized each other’s potential, strengths, and needs. You were able to work through conflicts and challenges that arose. Regardless of how difficult the students were, you could tackle anything because you had each other! Those same feelings, the good, the bad, and the ugly, are felt by our students too.

Paul McCartney and Jane Asher--his muse for this song.

Here, There, And Everywhere

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HMAf4Uq9mrs

To lead a better life
I need my love to be here
Here, making each day of the year
Changing my life with a wave of her hand
Nobody can deny that there's something there
There, running my hands through her hair
Both of us thinking how good it can be
Someone is speaking, but she doesn't know he's there
I want her everywhere
And if she's beside me I know I need never care
But to love her is to need her
Everywhere, knowing that love is to share
Each one believing that love never dies
Watching their eyes and hoping I'm always there
I want her everywhere
And if she's beside me I know I need never care
But to love her is to need her
Everywhere, knowing that love is to share
Each one believing that love never dies
Watching their eyes and hoping I'm always there
I will be there, and everywhere
Here, there and everywhere

Why Paper Is The Real 'Killer App'

While technology can certainly provide an edge for certain tasks, digital overload is a real and growing concern. A 2010 study by the University of California at San Diego suggests we consume nearly three times as much information as we did the 1960s. And a report by Ofcom in the UK  says that 60% of us consider ourselves addicted to our devices, with a third of us spending longer online each day than we intend. So are we doing too much, and are our screens too distracting? Possibly. For instance, many studies indicate that multitasking is bad for us and makes our brains more scattered.

Be proud of the steps you have taken to make learning more relevant and meaningful with technology. Continue to embrace innovative practices in order to implement new learning pathways for students. I ask you though to always lend a critical eye to both technology and innovation using a lens that peels away the talk, hype, and surface-level appeal.  Improve and strengthen the foundation of your professional practice. Identify elements of school culture that are being held back by the status quo. Most importantly, continually look to build powerful relationships with stakeholders, especially students.

Peter, Paul and Mary - The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I6x3mRbZo3k

The first time ever I saw your face
I thought the sun rose in your eyes
And the moon and stars were the gifts you gave
To the dark and the empty skies my love
To the dark and the empty skies.

The first time ever I kissed your mouth
I felt the earth move in my hand
Like the trembling heart of a captive bird
That was there at my command my love
That was there at my command.

The first time ever I held you near
And felt your heartbeat close to mine
I thought our joy would fill the world
And would last till the end of time my love
And would last till the end of time.

Assistive Technology for Math

There are many ways to access AT tools for math. You can find traditional “low-tech” classroom tools, like rulers, basic calculators and graph paper—including calculators with large numbers and symbols and graph paper with large graph squares—at a school supply store. Your child’s teacher may also be able to provide these tools.
There are also adaptive tools designed for kids with math issues. A common adaptive tool is manipulatives like blocks and number lines. The school may provide these in your child’s classroom. But you can also buy them online.

Today, however, lots of AT tools for math are being used on one of three computer platforms for assistive technology:
