MzTeachuh's Meditations: Peace, Baby

 

It has been a looooong season of turmoil and distress of unusual proportions for several years now even worldwide. Plague, civil unrest, and now political assassination. I grew up during 1960s, (I'm a grandma type person), and was in school when JFK, MLK, and RFK were assassinated and the cities were aflame. This was also during the Vietnam War and my cousin was drafted. Even though I lived in a peaceful little town in San Diego County and attended schools that were safe, fun and interesting, it was deeply disturbing. Even terrifying.

It is worse now. Schools have been the haven of learning and camaraderie for centuries in the USA. Now they are not safe.

Yet there seems to be a new Great Awakening happening in this country, reaching to the peace and personal meaning that the previous four Great Awakenings offered previously in America. As with the fourth Great Awakening in the 1970s (The Jesus Movement), young people of every status are finding Jesus to be very attractive as well as the lifestyle He offers. 

Jesus offers peace. 

 “I leave behind with you—peace; I give you my own peace and my gift is nothing like the peace of this world. You must not be distressed and you must not be daunted."  John 14:27-31 J.B. Phillips New Testament

When Jesus brings peace, it is like a warm blanket over your shoulders on a cold winter's night. I cannot explain it exactly, but He is with you.
