1. Adelanto Schools Parent Trigger Law In Effect, District Improperly Rejected Petition, Judge Rules

Parent Empowerment Update - Desert Trails School - 7/30/2012
On July 17, 2012, the Superior Court of San Bernardino County issued a
ruling that allows the Desert Trails Parent Union to proceed with the
solicitation of Charter Proposals. Many people have expressed concern
related to the status of Desert Trails for the school year that will
begin on August 20, 2012.What is the impact of this ruling on the current school year that will begin on August 20, 2012?
School will proceed as normal for the current school year. All teachers and classified employees currently assigned to Desert Trails will remain at Desert Trails.
What are the improvement strategies that have been initiated by employees and parents at Desert Trails to address student achievement?
All teachers currently assigned to Desert Trails have signed a commitment letter that affirms their intent to participate in professional staff development and activities associated with transforming student achievement at Desert Trails.
Parents and teachers collectively identified “Success for All” as a supplemental program that will guide their continuous improvement efforts in literacy. The Success for All program will incorporate research-based instructional strategies and will include professional development and coaching for Desert Trails staff to ensure that school-wide support and intervention is in place for all students.
Desert Trails is participating in Year 2 of Positive Behavior Interventions and Support (PBIS) to address and transform student behavior. The purpose of PBIS is to transform student behavior by application of principles focused on applied behavior analysis coupled with a prevention approach. The focus of PBIS is on changing behavior through school-wide processes with an emphasis on positive behavior and support.
Desert Trails will begin an after school program this year. The program will focus on literacy support, academic enrichment, and activities for students. Additional details will be available from the site when the staff returns on August 6, 2012.
Desert Trails will continue on their journey to continuous improvement through implementation of the Correlates of Effective School, which are inclusive of the following:
· Safe and Orderly Environment
· Clear and Focused Mission
· Climate of High Expectations for Success
· Instructional Leadership
· Opportunity to Learn and Time on Task
· Frequent Monitoring of Student Progress
· Home School Relations
We are looking forward to a productive school year for parents, students, and all employees involved with Desert Trails Elementary School.
