Who Is the Greatest Rock Poet? Nomination #3

Eleanor Rigby Statue, Liverpool, Tommy Steele. I like how she's looking at the little bird.
Paul McCartney @1966
Paul McCartney always looked as though he never had a care in the world, the golden boy, the 'cute' one. But his profound lyrics revealed an old soul, and radiated insight into the human condition that brought healing, optimism, and camradery. He knew how life felt, and wrote about it in a most profound poetic way. It doesn't matter that he suffered loss early on (his mother died when he was 14.) As a poet, he felt life and reached out to us all with his poetry.
This song helped comfort me during a tough time. Isn't that was great poetry does? Makes it personal.

Ah, look at all the lonely people
Ah, look at all the lonely people

Eleanor Rigby, picks up the rice
in the church where a wedding has been
Lives in a dream
Waits at the window, wearing the face
that she keeps in a jar by the door
Who is it for

All the lonely people
Where do they all come from?
All the lonely people
Where do they all belong?

Father McKenzie, writing the words
of a sermon that no one will hear
No one comes near
Look at him working, darning his socks
in the night when there's nobody there
What does he care

All the lonely people
Where do they all come from?
All the lonely people
Where do they all belong?

Ah, look at all the lonely people
Ah, look at all the lonely people

Eleanor Rigby, died in the church
and was buried along with her name
Nobody came
Father McKenzie, wiping the dirt
from his hands as he walks from the grave
No one was saved

All the lonely people
Where do they all come from?
All the lonely people
Where do they all belong
